An Inconvenient Wintery Kick in the Nards
Once again, it's going to hit 10 degrees Fahrenheit tonight (-12 Celsius for our friends outside of the US). It has been snowing every three to four days since November. I can't even remember what my yard and driveway look like. Hell, I didn't even have to shoot this picture in black and white.
So suck it, Al gore. I'm almost as sick of the Church of Man-made Global Warming of Latter-day saints as I am of all the other churches. If you really cared, you'd get into something truly clean and efficient. Hint: it's not your private jet. Hint #2: Our current president calls it something that rhymes with PUKE-you-lar.

Oh come on Doug. You know as well as I do that your snow storm has little to do with the global rise in temperature. It's still going to snow in places. Hell, Gore even alludes to the possibility of western Europe being sent into an ice age due to the melting of Greenland. It may be snowing in your back yard, but Polar Bears are losing ice to stand on.
I knew this would stir the turds (which is why I posted). :)
"Hell, Gore even alludes to the possibility of western Europe being sent into an ice age due to the melting of Greenland."
Around here we call that hedging our bets. And it hasn't been just one storm. This has been one of our coldest, wettest winters on record for a while now.
My point is less about global warming than it is to point out that we've had a viable solution for decades, and no one will embrace it. See Who Killed the Electric Car?
Im also tired of how many people are willing to stand up and give their "testimony" of global warming when the truth is the overwhelming majority of them know jack. It's just cool to say they do.
Most people don't know, don't have the time means or interest to actually know, and I think this makes them ripe to be taken advantage of. I will humbly grant that you may be the exception. I won't concede that to most.
I'll totally admit to having a sophomoric understanding of the issues surrounding climate change. From what I've seen, both in the news concerning record lows and record highs, the shifting of weather patterns, strange storms turning up in strange places, combined with data like that which Gore presents, I'm thinking man made climate change theory is very probable. Like you agreed with on my blog, it's not a bad idea to be concerned about the environment, regardless the cause.
As for the electric car, it could be argued that the need for additional electricity will cause an increase in emissions from power plants. As for nuclear energy, at least CO2 would be decreased.
I should clarify. Environmental concern is fine, as long as it's for a good reason. It has become politicized to the point where science barely even figures into the question for most people, if at all.
Nuke plants and electric cars make the most sense to me. Hydroelectric isn't bad either. Unfortunately a lot of the same people crying about global warming have made it damn near impossible to do anything but burn coal and oil for energy.
ditto on that. Nuclear power would be awesome. We have good technology to make VERY efficient plants as well as nearly failsafe technology for the transportation of expended slugs. We even have a great place to store said waste very reliably. Yet the hippies keep crying "no! nuclear bad! go solar! (which kills birds and takes up wildlife land) go wind! (which ALSO kills birds) go hydrogen! (which is still too expensive to realistically implement) go ethanol! (when electric doesn't make ANY emissions)" When we could more cheaply, cleanly, and "greener" make nuclear power. Let alone the world wide issues of oil helping fund some very unsavory people.
